Yoga practices are for women….
Yoga practices are for both men and women, young and elderly, as all humans breathe, have an intelligent mind that thinks, and a body that knows how to keep itself healthy given the right conditions. Yoga practice includes a systematic set of poses, breathing techniques, cleansing methods that help to restore and maintain one’s mental and physical well being. It is an ancient art of living left behind by the wise for the benefit all human beings.
I’m not flexible nor strong to practice Yoga poses….
The system of Yoga poses are designed to build flexibility and strength progressively for anyone who is ready to embark on this journey of self discovery, finding the balance in one’s life. A flexible and strong physique and mind will endow one with great energy to lead life with a sense of clarity, promoting harmony with one’s living environment.
Why are Yoga practices more preferred than other forms of Sports?
Majority of the leisure sports emphasize repetitive movements interspersed with usage of muscular strength. Tensing of muscles over a prolong period of time, will adversely affect the nerves, bones, and other delicate parts of the body. These exercises that focus on certain parts of the body more than the rest, will lead to inflammations on the joints and muscles, more so for those who are unaware of their own physical condition and the preventive measures. Most leisurely sports do not place a balanced emphasis on flexibility and strength, hence leading to higher risk of injuries.
Yoga practice helps to increase one’s awareness of their strength and limitations. Through the poses (asanas), one learns to build strength and flexibility, while finding balance between the two in their own capacity. The awareness that comes with the practice helps to avoid any long term injuries.
How long do I need to practice before I can ‘graduate’ from the Yoga practice?
Every person’s body and mind is unique. There is no graduation per se in Yoga practices. Over time, one’s practices on the mat will gradually flow into one’s life. It’s about knowing how to carry one’s postures, how to breathe correctly, how to be compassionate to one’s body and mind, and to people and things around us, etc. One learns to appreciate the living conditions, leading to peace and ease in one’s life. Yoga is a life journey, there’s no destination….
If I follow a long term Yoga program, will I heal all my health problems and not get sick thereafter?
Depending on one’s current health conditions, Yoga practices can improve the quality of life in a non-invasive way, and for some, the practices can heal them totally. It is recommended that one seeks out the doctors’ advice before embarking on a Yoga practice if there is an existing medical condition.
Yoga practices when done regularly and correctly over long period of time, with guidance from a good teacher, has been proven to support the healing of medical conditions. Even if one falls sick or suffered minor injuries, the recovery was shown to be faster. |
