Things to know before your first yoga class.

These tips will help you feel more confident, comfortable, and prepared on your first yoga class.

Arrive early.

Being in a hurry – Attending a yoga class is stressful for you. Running to class after class starts is a troublesome situation and it is going to distract you.

Ideally, be sure to arrive before class starts, a few extra minutes before class starts allows you to prepare for practice. It would be a good idea to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early which will give you time to roll out the tie, remove the shoes, remove the items, check in yourself, and do some gentle warm-up poses. So make sure to reach on time, sit calmly and focus on your breath.

Yoga outfit.

For women, wear clothing that won’t restrict your movement. Leggings that stay opaque, long fitted tops that won’t ride up or flop over your head in downward dog, and sports bras that give good support.

For men, a popular choice is loose-fitting (but not overly loose) t-shirts. A comfortable, sweat-absorbent shirt that allows you to easily lift your arms up without restricting your movement or rising up too much, showing off your stomach. When it comes to bottoms, a pair of track pants or joggers with a good fit or a pair of running shorts.

Yoga is practiced with bare feet to allow your body to adjust to uneven surfaces or just grip the floor better. You can buy yoga socks if you dislike the idea of going barefoot. These socks have grips on them and are usually toeless.

Don't take class on full stomach.

Trying to do yoga right after mealtime will hinder your practice. Eating something very light an hour before class works out well for most people, but your body may vary. If you're hungry and running to a class straight from work or are on a tight schedule, eating a few quick mouthfuls of a little protein or light carbohydrates is better than eating nothing and not having the energy to get through the class.

Afterward, it is fine to eat whatever you’d like. However, after paying attention to your body in class, you may feel like keeping it light and healthy. Yoga tends to inspire people to take better care of themselves and eat healthier, which is one of the ways yoga can help you lose weight.

Health conditions.

During illness, surgeries, or any sprains or fractures, one should refrain from yoga practice. You can resume yoga after consulting experts. Kindly declare if you are suffering from any health conditions and if you are pregnant.
